Les Subsistances - Verrière
With: Alain Badiou
In dialogue with : Jean Birnbaum
« Against a certain relativism, Alain Badiou is one of those who considers that a philosopher should never give up searching for truth. In order to carry out such an inquiry, he has often invoked mathematics, but he also likes to use literature. As an author of novels and plays himself, this politically-committed intellectual places his analyses at the junction between politics and aesthetics. Re-reading the texts of Mallarmé, Brecht or Sartre, he uses literary texts as special tools which enable him to explore human history. Above all, the philosopher drains energy from these into order to construct a form of revolutionary writing in the wake of the avant-garde writers and what he has called, in homage to André Breton, “the high language of manifestos”. »
